Four women from the target group, who have been attending the self-help group of the project “Together against violence” decided to become outreach peer workers and to help other women in need. They are victims of violence against women, as well as being homeless. However, they decided not to give up and as a result of their experience of receiving support from others, they now wish to help other women in the same situation.
These four women passed the requalification course “worker in social services”, they cooperate with the fieldwork consultancy center, and they attend seminars or courses to get more education on the topic of social work and violence against women.
Norway has a long history in prevention and helping women who suffered violence and therefore a next step for these peer outreach workers would be to go there and gain experience. The partner organization KUN (Center for gender equality) will prepare a study trip, where women from the target group will meet with Norwegian organizations. Upon their return, they will prepare a seminar for homeless women who have suffered violence, to share their experience and each of them will write an article for “Bezdomoviny”.
